I tried using a variable density Singh-Ray filter to do an extremely long shutter (5 minutes+) and let the people disappear from the photo, but I found that I was getting some serious issues with the image at the darker settings. I definitely have yet to master that filter. But I thought it created a great base for a nostalgic treatment and decided to go with that, rather than scrap the photo. The photo shown here is just a 3 second exposure, which I thought added a little energy to the people.
These stairs near the docks in Moeraki have clearly outlasted everything around them. I like to imagine there used to be a little home here with a beautiful view over the water, even if that’s not likely.

We walked through this area to get some photos of Mount Cook. On the way back to the car, a local stopped to talk to us about the removal of these trees. She was pretty concerned that they were critical to stopping the wind from blowing over a nearby shed.
