I took this portrait of my friend Maria about a year ago when I first started using studio strobes. I was lucky to have friends who were willing to be my guinea pigs. It’s amazing to look back at the end of the year and think about how much I’ve learned. I bought my strobes last December and was just getting started. I love this shot, it still looks great – but it took me an hour the first time, and now I know exactly how to get this look right out of the gate. It’s a great feeling to reflect on your work and see how far you’ve come. I started the year with 9 years of photography on my belt, but you’re always learning, and this year was all about getting efficient as I started CarbonSilver Photography. I’ve got 17,620 photos in Lightroom for 2009 – which means I probably shot 60-80,000 pictures when you take out the redundant pics or lesser images I’ve deleted along the way. (Yes, that’s an average of about 200 photos a day! I guarantee I’ll shoot at least another 2000 next week). I shot about 10 weddings this year, countless portraits and events, and lots of skylines, travel and personal projects. And all that shooting pushed me to new levels. Thanks to my clients, friends and photographers who’ve supported me and helped push me to new levels this year. 2009 was a huge year for me… I’m looking forward to a very exciting 2010 !!
