I met up with a couple last night in Northeast Minneapolis whose wedding I’m going to shoot next month. I figured I’d get the camera out for a few shots of the area afterward since since the light was perfect. “The Soap Factory” is dedicated to more experimental visual art. It’s housed in the building that formerly housed the National Purity Soap Factory in the St Anthony Main area along the Mississippi River. I hear the haunted basement that they put on for Halloween is a great way to soil your jeans, good thing they have soap.
After I shot the Soap Factory, I headed across the Stone Arch Bridge to catch a shot of downtown Minneapolis and caught this sunset shot of Lock and Dam #1 by the St Anthony Falls, with 225 S. Sixth, the Wells Fargo Building, and the Carlyle off in the distance. I’ve paddled through that lock in a canoe before, which was pretty surreal. When you approach the lock, there’s a rope that says “pull cord” which calls the lockmaster to let you through. Then they dump 9 million gallons of water so you can head downriver.
